URSA II

Full-featured, high-quality, and modestly priced. In short, the perfect multi channel analyzer. URSA-II has been re-designed considering the comments and requests from our customers. The URSA II is compatible with a greater range of radiation detectors than the original. The URSA-II is a wonderful device, and comes with everything you need: just add your own computer and the detector of your choice. Streamline your radiation detection chores with URSA-II.

The URSA-II Software

▪ The full quantitative software packages are included in the purchase price. These include Windows PC software ("URSA-II MCA") as well as software for Pocket PCs (such as the iPAQ or Jornada) running WindowsCE ("URSA-II PPC"). Software updates will be provided at no charge on the URSA-II support website.

▪ PC software includes a multi-channel scaling mode, peak search and identify, quantification based on ROIs or peaks search.

▪ Spectra can be saved and reloaded to "live" for re-analysis or additional data accumulation, or loaded as a background spectrum. Spectrum format is easily accessible by your spreadsheet program.

▪ Saved spectra can be superimposed on the "active" spectrum for comparison.

▪ All reports can be previewed, printed, or saved as text or rich text files.

▪ Totally adjustable visual settings. Easily change colors and spectrum display format.

▪ Includes a full-featured library editor. Standard libraries included with the software include all 7,479 gamma energies listed in the "Kocher Tables."

▪ Provisions are included for acquiring and saving spectra repeatedly and continuously while unattended.

▪ Sophisticated multiple alarm functions can be based on the overall count rate or individual ROIs, and can be based on exceeding a specific rate or an increase in rate over a specific time interval.

▪ Alarms can trigger external devices.

URSA-II Hardware

▪ 4096 channels. Can also be configured for 256, 512, 1024, or 2048 channels via software.

▪ Internal bias voltage supply. Provides positive high voltage from 0 to 2000V at up to 0.5mA. Adjusted via software. Negative high voltage supply available on request.

▪ Adjustable shaping time, 0.25 to 10 µs. Adjusted via software.

▪ Wide gain range. By utilizing coarse and fine gain controls, achieve overall gain from less than x1 up to x250. Adjusted via software.

▪ Two detector inputs. One is a standard series "C" connector for detectors where the signal is joined with the high voltage supply. The other is for detectors having separate connections for high voltage (SHV connector) and signal (BNC connector).

▪ The active detector input is selected via software, and can be a negative, positive, or pre-shaped (positive) signal.

▪ Powered through external jack by a 12VDC power supply (supplied at no extra cost) or six "AA" NiMH rechargeable batteries (included). Batteries recharge internally, whether the URSA-II is operating or not. "Fast Charge" of NiMH batteries can also be selected by toggling a switch. If desired, six standard alkaline "AA" batteries can be used (but cannot be recharged--switch inside battery compartment selects battery type). The URSA-II can also be powered directly through the external jack by 12VDC provided by a vehicle.

▪ External connector can provide +5V, +12V, and -12V if needed for external preamplifiers.

▪ External connector can provide two logic signals for notifying external devices of alarm conditions.

▪ "ASCII" mode provided which allows control of and data collection from the URSA-II with user's own software or hardware.

▪ Connects to controlling computer using a standard RS232 serial port. Also supports USB using RS232-to-USB adapter.

▪ External controls consist of two switches. One turns the power on and off, and the other switches between fast and normal charging rates. (An internal switch located in the battery compartment suppresses battery-charging circuitry for when non-rechargeable batteries are being used.) All other controls are set using software.

▪ External indicators consist of three LEDs. One indicates external power availability, one indicates that the fast charge is activated, and one indicates the URSA-II's on or off state.

▪ Small in size. The URSA-II measures 6" long by 3.5" wide by 1.8" tall. Weighs about one pound with batteries installed.
